Dear Prospective Parent,
Thank you for your interest in St. Francis of Assisi
Elementary School. First of all, I am delighted that
you are considering entrusting your childs spiritual,
academic, and emotional growth to us. I speak for the
entire staff when I say, We are honored!
Our Catholic faith and traditions define who we are,
yet children from all faiths are welcome to join our
school family. We follow our Acts of Courtesy
and Schoolwide Learning Expectations which encompass
our goals for our students. We strive to assist each
student in becoming spiritual, academic, respectful,
confident, and responsible members of our world.
As a student in our Catholic school, your child will
not just receive religious curriculum instruction, but
will also experience and live Gospel values throughout
the day. Academically, we are committed to maintaining
the highest level of excellence, preparing our students
for high school and life-long success, while never losing
sight that every child learns differently. In addition
to our standard subjects, our general curriculum also
includes Performing Arts, Music, Spanish, Italian, PE,
Technology, and Library. Some of our extracurricular
activities include Academic, Religion and Math Decathlon
teams, Student Council, Choir, Drama Club, News and
Media Team, and sports programs. We also offer a wonderful
before and after school Extended Day program which meets
the needs of most of our working parents.

annual Open House on Sunday, January 31, 2010 from

Overview (School and Academics)
School History
St.
Francis of Assisi Elementary School opened on November 5,
1895, as a two-room school staffed by the Sisters of Mercy
from St. Josephs Academy. The present school was built
in 1923 and became part of St. Francis Parish. It was staffed
after the move to this site by Franciscan Sisters and Brothers.
Originally, it was an elementary and high school. In the 1950s
there was reorganization, and the high school separated from
the elementary school. It became a diocesan high school rather
than continuing its association with St. Francis Parish.
Currently, St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School is a transitional-kindergarten
(TK) through eighth grade school with an Extended Day Service.
The educational services provided seek to address the needs
of children and families. We have programs to meet the academic,
spiritual, physical, psychological, and social needs of our
students.
The staff at St. Francis has a long tradition of providing
excellent educational services to the children of the Sacramento
Valley. We, the current staff, take pride in upholding that
tradition.

| | | The Prayer of Saint Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is doubt, faith; And where there is sadness, joy. O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, As to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
